Update: New Pollinator Habitat

Our new Arboretum Pollinator Habitat, established with support from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Kentucky Natural Land Trust, transformed a mowed fescue field into a thriving 5-acre pollinator habitat planted with over 25 native forbs and seven native grasses. The site features a series of trails, a wayfinding sign, and interpretive signage focused on grassland restoration, ecology, native flora, pollinators, grassland birds and butterflies. Integrated into The Arboretum’s outreach and educational programming, the habitat serves as a model for homeowners and communities to create pollinator-friendly spaces and support regional biodiversity.

In September we have enjoyed a beautiful yellow bloom of multiple native composites. New walking paths have been mowed. This new feature is providing wonderful wildlife habitat, while reducing the need for mowing, and demonstrating sustainable land management practices.
