Winter Dendrology: Identifying Trees without the Leaves

-

Guest Speaker Rob Paratley

Even without leaves, trees have stories to tell. In this seminar, you’ll learn how to recognize trees in their winter condition by examining bark, lingering fruits, and other features. The focus will be on the art of reading twigs and buds. These tiny details can often reveal a tree’s identity. Together, we’ll explore through slides, hands-on twig samples, and, weather permitting, a walk among the Arboretum’s own trees to practice our new skills in the field.
