Event Description

WWAD (Walk with a Doc) is a 20 year international community walking program. It began in Columbus Ohio in 2005, led by a cardiologist who wanted to do more to improve his patients’ cardiac health.

The University of Kentucky has participated in the program since 2014.  It is a doctor-led walking group that combines movement, nature and conversation with community members who choose to focus on healthier lifestyles in a simple, sustainable way.

The walk begins with a 5-10 minute conversation with a doctor around a topic that helps us to make better informed decisions about lifestyle. As we walk, we have the opportunity to meet new friends, talk with the doc or simply focus on the beauty of nature.  Whether in the science discussed, the camaraderie experienced, or the healing power of nature, participants seem to find a connectivity that is important to the concept of whole person health. Our walks always include the family, pets, strollers.
